Wanstead Festival

Wanstead Festival

Wanstead’s traditional fun-filled day of music, dance, food, drink, arts & crafts, rides and activities for all the family, right in the heart of Wanstead. And as a first, this year the festival fun extends to Wanstead High Street where part of the road will be liberated from traffic.

Wanstead Fringe Jumble Trail

Saturday 11 September at 11:00 am 2:00 pm

The popular Wanstead Fringe Jumble trail is back!  The original, biggest and best local trail returns on Saturday 11 September bringing Jumble Trail fans to Wanstead from all over East London.

The Jumble Trail offers a brilliant opportunity to clear out your wardrobe and free up some space in the toy cupboard – assuming you dare to open it! It also provides a great excuse to get out there and meet the neighbours, steal ideas for your garden, and just have a general wander around the area. Who knows who you might meet – or what you might find? And this year, the Trail aims to be more eco-friendly than ever, reflecting society’s growing sense of environmental awareness.

The Jumble Trail encourages everyone to reuse household items and keep them in use for longer. This year, however, it will also introduce new opportunities to repair and recycle too. An expert team of seamstresses will be offering a clothing drop off service to treat split seams, care for wonky buttons and reinvigorate worn elbow patches – if you’re sure you really want to wear elbow patches.

If you want a break from shopping then visit the Plant Clinic hosted by Wanstead Community Gardeners. They will answer any questions you have about your indoor or outdoor plants and also hold a succulent planting workshop for under 10’s. Simply turn up with a household item to be recycled into a plant pot and a gorgeous succulent that’s theirs to take home and nurture.

There will be a Central Hub behind the Corner House on Wanstead High Street, where you’ll also be able to pick up a Jumble Trail Map and visit several stalls – from here we are encouraging visitors to head off on foot or bike and use our map to visit gardens and drives full of goodies across Wanstead.

There is a £5 charge for taking part in the trail – proceeds will to to Wanstead primary school PTAs.

Wanstead Kinema

Friday 10 September at 6:30 pm 9:30 pm

The Lorax

Wanstead’s annual outdoor cinema spectacular returns for the open-air Kinema. And to enable maximum social distancing, we’re returning to our first venue, Wanstead Cricket Club at Overton Drive.

We are delighted to present our annual outdoor cinema spectacular, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of Dr Seuss’ The Lorax. And to enable maximum social distancing, we’re returning to our first venue, Wanstead Cricket Club at Overton Drive.

As in previous years there will be a bar and hot food available. Please note that although this is an outdoor event, guests will need to follow the Wanstead Cricket Club covid protocols, and parents will need to be responsible for their little Barbaloots.

Why are we showing The Lorax? It’s a GREAT film, simple as that. But the original book inspired a generation of environmentalists. And if as a result of seeing the film here at the Kinema, one child goes on to plant a… (read more)
