SUMMARY:Contractions
DESCRIPTION:Mike Bartlett’s Contractions is a razor-sharp black comedy which revels in the dark absurdities of corporate culture. \nIn a series of chillingly polite meetings\, Emma finds her personal relationship dissected by The Manager in the name of company policy. As the inquiries become more invasive and the consequences more severe\, the distinction between protocol and control begins to vanish. \nWith biting humour and unnerving precision\, Contractions interrogates how authority cloaks itself in procedure\, and the destruction wrought by systems which demand compliance over humanity. \nFollow Far Between Theatre on Instagram.

SUMMARY:Wanstead Book Festival presents: Joanna Pocock in conversation with John Rogers
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: CHANGE OF VENUE – this event will now be upstairs at the Bull\, 129 High St. *  \nTwenty years ago\, Joanna Pocock travelled by Greyhound bus across the US. Nearly 20 years later\, she repeated the journey\, revisiting the same cities\, edgelands\, highways and motels. \nIn Greyhound she explores the overlapping area of place and memory as she navigates two different landscapes – an earlier\, less atomized society and a current one mired in inequality and teetering on the brink of environmental calamity. Greyhound combines memoir\, reportage and literary criticism\, and is a moving and immersive exploration of modern day America with all its beauty\, horror and complexity. \nJoanna will be in conversation with Wanstead Fringe favourite John Rogers whose calling as psychogeographer has led him to explore the link between place\, memory and people. \n* The upstairs room at the Bull is accessible only by stairs. If this is going to cause you problems\, please accept our apologies and contact us for a refund.

SUMMARY:House of Scandal: A tribute to heiress Catherine
DESCRIPTION:A tribute to Wanstead’s House heiress Catherine on the 200th anniversary of her death. \nThe angel of Wanstead House\, Catherine Long-Wellesley\, who was wronged by her rogue of a wastrel husband who squandered her fortune\, died exactly 200 years ago. Her tale is one of celebrity\, glamour and exquisite injustice – but so much more than that. \nSuspend your disbelief as\, for one night only\, the Duke of Wellington invites the people of Wanstead to join him at St Mary’s Church to celebrate the life of their lost heiress. An extraordinary evening of storytelling and music will honour the legacy of a fearless trailblazer\, a local legend and a symbol of fierce feminine determination. \nThis celebration of life promises to be as unforgettable as the woman herself. Featuring text created by the author of The Angel and the Cad\, Geraldine Roberts\, and soul-stirring classical performances by the internationally-renowned Anastasia Nikki Forova\, and \, the event will culminate in a procession into the church grounds – where remembrance meets revelry. Raise a glass at an open-air wake and be part of a night where music\, memory\, and community come together under the stars. \nDon’t miss this powerful tribute to a woman who changed her world – and continues to inspire ours. \nAll welcome. One night only. Let her story light the way.

SUMMARY:Redbridge Brass presents "Alice in WonderBand"
DESCRIPTION:“Alice in WonderBand” takes the audience on a whimsical journey through the curious world of brass bands through the lens of the classic children’s story. \nWhere the Queen of Hearts wields the baton\, the Mad Hatter keeps time on percussion and a smoky-toned caterpillar slides around on trombone. Even the cornet section has turned into a deck of marching playing cards! As Alice tries to make sense of this musical madness she’s left wondering… is this a dream or just another day at band rehearsal? \nAs a warm up\, the band will perform a selection of tunes based on famous books and stories. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang\, Matilda\, Batman\, Harry Potter to name but a few. And no story based concert would be complete without Rimsky-Korsakov’s epic Scheherazade which paints vivid musical pictures of The Arabian Nights. \nThis is a concert for the whole family to enjoy! \nDuring the interval there will be refreshments available including\, of course\, a selection of band made cakes! \nDetails: \n\nDuration: around 2 hours incl. 20 minute interval\nTickets: £15 plus booking fee (under 12’s free)\n\n  \n🎟️ Buy tickets now at Ticketsource 🎟️ \n
