DESCRIPTION:In this introductory class you will be guided through the basics of throwing clay on the potter’s wheel.  \nThese classes accommodate a maximum of three students. You will be taught how to: \n\nPrepare your clay\nCentre it on the wheel\nPull up the walls of your piece to create form\n\nPlease be prepared for a few disasters before you get to grips fully with the potter’s wheel\, it’s perfectly normal for beginners and all part of the fun of the learning process. \nYour piece will be finished\, fired and glazed for you. There will be the opportunity to choose a glaze colour from the select range of studio dipping glazes. Once your piece has completed its second firing and is ready for collection you will be notified by email\, approximately 6 to 8 weeks later. \nThe price includes all materials used during the session. A welcome email will be sent with further information ahead of your class. \n\nClass duration: 3 hours\nSuitable for: Adults and kids 11+

DESCRIPTION:Come along for a day filled with fun\, stories and activities as the second Wanstead Family Book Day comes to Wanstead Library! Entry is free and all are invited. This year three authors will be leading sessions: \n  \n11am SOPHY HENN \nLearn to draw Mr Big Fluff the hamster and the rest of the Happy Hills crew\, design your own comic character\, and lots more fun. \nSophy Henn is an award-winning picture book author and illustrator. She is the creator of the much-loved Bad Nana series\, the Pom Pom series\, the Ted board book series\, and the nonfiction titles Lifesize and Lifesize Dinosaurs\, among others. Her debut picture book\, Where Bear?\, was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal. \nThe Happy Hills series are hilariously funny full-colour graphic novels\, filled with CUTE and NOT SO CUTE characters\, perfect for fans of Bunny vs Monkey\, Dogman and Donut Squad! Can be enjoyed by all ages\, from 5-11. \n  \n1.30pm DARREN CHETTY \nJoin author Darren Chetty for a heartwarming event based around his new picture book I’m Going To Make A Friend. Find out all about the many challenges of making new friends and how long it will take – and maybe make a few new friends yourself!\n \nDarren Chetty is a Welsh Indian South African Dutch Londoner. He teaches in primary schools and at university and writes for people of all ages. He loves football and music and collects children’s books\, snow globes and toy robots. (Please note\, due to unforeseen circumstances our previous guest author Nima Patel is unable to attend.) \n  \n  \n  \n \n3pm CRYSTAL SUNG \nAuthor Crystal Sung\, creator of the Spellcasters series\, will introduce the characters with their various different magic powers and talismans and help you imagine what your own powers would look like. It’s intriguing and empowering.

DESCRIPTION:Immersive harp and vocal soundscapes. \nReveries is a headphone-based immersive play combining harp music\, narrative text\, and spatial sound design. The session features the full audio experience. \nSet in a world where time slips and memory distorts\, Reveries invites listeners into a liminal sonic landscape inhabited by the voices of the departed — fragments of souls clinging to memory to resist oblivion. As recollections dissolve\, truth intertwines with imagined lives\, and the harp becomes a story keeper: preserving memory through sound and guiding us through a shifting terrain of remembrance and forgetting. \nDrawing from immersive theatre and narrative sound practices\, this work creates a poetic\, interiorised experience. DESCRIPTION:Fiona Harrison (Classical /Spanish Guitar) \n“An extremely persuasive artist with immaculate tone and perfectly balanced technique” – Classical Guitar magazine \nRicardo Curbelo (Harp\, Cuatro\, Maracas\, Vocals) \n“I have never heard the harp played like this and I loved it!” – Haslemere Educational Museum\, Surrey. \nJoin these two accomplished soloists on a vibrant and exciting journey showcasing a wide variety of music from Latin America\, Spain\, France and beyond. \nInnovative Latin American harpist\, composer and poet Ricardo Curbelo performs his Matiz work\, which combines traditional music from different Latin American countries\, together with his own\, spellbinding compositions.
