Searching through a bookshop in the former Soviet bloc, local author John Davies found something amazing: intricately detailed maps of the UK, in Russian.
The Soviets had, it turned out, been secretly mapping the West for decades in remarkable detail. In conversation with Wanstead’s favourite psychogeographer John Rogers, Davies discusses the fascination of such maps, as well as what has been lost as apps have replaced maps – including London’s iconic bus map.
